Choose from an expanded range of standard sizes or opt for our custom width reduction service. See our "How to Choose the Right Gate Size" guide below.
How to Choose the Right Gate Size:
Step 1: Decide How You Want to Hang the Gate
- Between Existing Structures (Wall-to-Wall): Fit the gate directly between two existing walls or sturdy pillars.
- Wall and New Aluminium Post (25mm, 50mm, or 75mm): Attach a new post to a wall, and hang the gate between the wall and this post.
- Between Two New Posts: Install two new aluminium posts, and hang the gate between them.
Step 2: Measure the Opening Width & Height
- Measure the Narrowest Point: Always measure your physical opening width and height in millimetres at the absolute narrowest point of the brickwork or gap.
- Height Clearance: Ensure your total physical opening height is at least 100mm taller than the gate height you select to allow for proper ground clearance.
Step 3: Account for Posts & Hinge Clearance
The amount of clearance required depends entirely on your installation method:
- Between Existing Walls (No Posts): Allow an extra 30mm total width for hinge and lock clearance. (Formula: Total Brickwork Gap = Gate Width + 30mm).
- Between Two New Free-Standing Posts: Allow an extra 30mm total width for clearance between the installed posts. You must also add the total width of both posts to your calculation. (Formula: Total Brickwork Gap = Gate Width + 30mm + Post 1 + Post 2).
- Wall to Post (Using a single Receiver Post): The hinge and lock clearance allowance slightly reduces when using a wall-mounted post configuration. Allow 20mm total width for clearance, plus the width of your chosen post. (Formula: Total Brickwork Gap = Gate Width + 20mm + Post Width).
Step 4: Check Standard Gate Sizes
Check the dropdown menu to see if a standard size fits your opening exactly. If it does, no custom reduction is required.
Step 5: Calculate Custom Gate Size (If Needed)
If none of the standard sizes fit perfectly, calculate a custom size by taking your measured opening width, allowing 30mm for the hinges, deducting any post widths, and rounding your final calculated width up to the next available standard gate size.
Step 6: Choose your Fit: Standard Size or Bespoke Cut (See Sizing Guide in the Product Description)
- If a standard size fits perfectly, simply select 'Standard Size' from the pricing options and leave the Final Gate Width box blank.
- If you need a custom width, you must select the 'Bespoke Cut' option from the dropdown menu first, and only then enter your exact calculated width (in mm) into the Final Gate Width box.
